Cranachan (16:45 Ascot, this afternoon: Melbourne Cup Carnival Handicap, Class 3, 2m)
Ralph Beckett’s gelding, in excellent form at 20% over the last fortnight, ridden by Rossa Ryan. Produced a career-best when stepping up to this 2m trip for the first time at Chester last time, winning by 6 lengths, and perfect at the distance so far. Now steps up again to Class 3 and carries a 9lb rise for that win, with plenty of improvement still in the tank judging by how he won.
Verdict: Back Cranachan to win. He’s only just discovered his best trip, the yard’s flying, and there’s more to come despite the higher grade. 🏇
