Kahin (16:30 York — Azets Handicap, 1m 2½f)
A three-year-old Kingman colt trained by William Haggas and owned by Shadwell, Kahin has been on an upward curve since his debut and finally got his head in front at Hamilton on 25 June, winning a seven-runner maiden by a neck at 4/6 favourite. That was his third start and he’s clearly learning fast — a horse who was well beaten on debut at Windsor in Class 3 company back in May has come a long way in a short time.
Today he steps into handicap company for the first time at York on good to firm ground, drawn in stall 3 with low numbers favoured on this track over this trip — a significant plus. Haggas is bang in form at 14% over the last fortnight and Kahin’s pedigree — by Kingman out of a Galileo mare — screams that middle distances and better ground will bring out the best in him.
Verdict: Back to win at 11/4 — unexposed, well drawn, top yard, open to significant improvement first time in handicaps.
