Musical Soldier (16:55 Lingfield — Mo’s Mile Handicap, Class 6, 1m AW)
A three-year-old bay gelding trained by Ollie Sangster and partnered by SD Bowen, who won on him at this very track on 1 August. Musical Soldier has been in outstanding form this summer, winning three consecutive races at Wolverhampton, Lingfield and Lingfield again — all in cheekpieces, all on the AW, and all in convincing fashion. His 100% record in cheekpieces across three starts is the standout stat, and a 50% course win rate shows Lingfield suits him well.
He steps up from 7f to a mile today for the first time which is the only unknown, but his dam’s sire Nayef was a renowned stayer and there’s every reason to believe the extra furlong will be within his compass. In a weak five-runner Class 6 field, his recent form puts him well clear.
Verdict: Back to win — hat-trick bid, course form franked, 100% record in cheekpieces, and connections clearly targeting an AW bonus. 🏇
