Ecclefechan (15:42 Windsor — Follow Matchbook On X Handicap, Class 4, 1m 31y)
A three-year-old bay gelding trained by J Ryan — in superb form at 37.5% over the last 14 days — and partnered by Jack Mitchell, who has a 50% win record on him across their two rides together. Ecclefechan has been in red-hot form this summer, winning back-to-back at Windsor on 24 August and then Yarmouth on 30 August, the latter by 2½ lengths at 9/4 favourite. He returns to Windsor today — the scene of his first win — and has a 100% course and distance record and a 100% record at this trip.
The step up to Class 4 is new territory but his sectional times on both recent wins have been well above average, suggesting he’s a horse running well within himself at the lower levels. Ryan’s yard is firing and Mitchell will have him perfectly placed from stall 6 with no draw bias to worry about.
Verdict: Back to win — back-to-back winners returning to his winning track, in-form yard, retained jockey, and sectional times suggest more to come. 🏇
