Brilliant Star (15:15 Bath, this afternoon: 12f)
The Gosdens’ filly, from a yard in good form. She raced too freely when fourth in the Group 2 Ribblesdale at Ascot last time and finished as if the step up in trip would suit. She gets that stretch today, plus a first-time tongue-tie and a break to help her settle. Stays 12f, should get further, and acts on fast ground and the all-weather. Dropping down in grade after a Group 2 is a big plus. The one query is her quirky side, but a calmer pace should help, and she’s up against Venetia and Alla Stella.
Verdict: Back Brilliant Star to win. She’s a class above on form, the yard is flying, and the extra trip and tongue-tie look the right fixes. 🏇
