Dan Skelton’s six-year-old bay gelding by Shantou, ridden by Harry Skelton, with the yard running at 14% over the last fortnight. He was beaten 3¼ lengths into third at Haydock last time, only that far after a series of jarring errors, and he travelled well enough to suggest there’s plenty more to come with cleaner jumping. His one win came over this sort of trip, at Wetherby. The question marks are that he hasn’t run since April, and hasn’t yet won on ground as quick as today’s good.
Verdict: Back Brookside La to win. He’s got the engine, the yard knows him inside out, and a clean round should be good enough in this handicap. 🏇
