Star Velocity (15:30 Ffos Las — Diplomat Hotel Maiden Stakes, 5f)
A three-year-old bay filly by Zoustar, owned by Mrs Fitri Hay and trained by Ralph Beckett, who has been in terrific nick lately with a 26% strike rate. Star Velocity showed real promise on her debut at Southwell last month, finishing third of eleven at 28/1 — green early but finishing strongly once the penny dropped, beaten 2½ lengths. That was an encouraging introduction from a filly who is a full sister to Sweet Carolina, a winner over 5f, and today’s drop back to the minimum trip could be the key.
Rossa Ryan takes the ride and the low draw in stall 3 is perfectly placed at Ffos Las over 5f. Normal improvement from debut and she should be winning this.
Verdict: Back to win at 8/11 — in-form yard, encouraging debut, drop in trip should suit.
