Brunhilde (10:15 Doncaster — British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes, 1m 3f 197y)

A three-year-old bay filly by Night Of Thunder, trained by George Boughey — who has been in excellent nick at 18% over the last fortnight — and ridden by the classy James Doyle. Brunhilde is just two runs into her career but is clearly on an upward curve. She shaped with promise on her AW debut at Southwell in May, then stepped up markedly when finishing a close second at Salisbury on 14 June over 1m2f on good ground, beaten just a length by Wild Violet as the 9/4 second favourite.

Today she steps up again to 1m4f on good to firm ground at Doncaster, a galloping track that will suit her style of racing, and the extra distance looks very much in her favour given how she stayed on at Salisbury. By a sire who gets horses that relish middle distances and out of a dam by Beat Hollow, there’s stamina throughout her pedigree.

In a small field of just five, her recent form puts her clear on paper and Doyle is a major positive booking for Boughey.

Verdict: Back to win — open to plenty of improvement and looks the class act here.
